CCR's Room Rules and Retreat Rundown

Plan your adventure with wisdom and confidence! Please read our guest & risk policies, and retreat guides. All guests entering, dining, or lodging on CCR property must abide by our policies. Thank you!

We’re stoked to have you here, ready to connect with nature, unwind along the pristine shores of Coconut and Canoe Beaches, and soak up the wild beauty of Liberia’s coast. Our eco-retreat is designed to vibe with the environment, delivering an authentic, off-the-grid adventure. We’re all about making your stay safe and fun, but let’s be real—this natural playground and its activities come with some inherent risks. By choosing to explore, chill, or dive into this unique spot, you’re doing so at your own risk. Here’s the scoop:

Natural Environment

Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean, funky rock formations, coconut farms, and untouched tropical vibes, our retreat is raw and real. The beach, cove, farm, and bush are alive with shifting tides, strong currents, uneven ground, and wildlife. Swimming, wading, or wandering? Totally your call—but Mother Nature doesn’t punch a clock. Rip currents, rogue waves, or slippery rocks might throw you a curveball. Step into the water or roam the wild at your own discretion.

Eco-Friendly Facilities

We keep it green with solar power, rainwater collection, and rustic digs. No fancy guardrails or paved sidewalks, and—though rare—you could temporarily lose power. Our trails, wooden walkways, and open-air rooms*, cabins, and bungalows are rugged, charming, and sometimes exposed to the elements. Watch your step, and if a coconut bonks you or you trip over a root, well, that’s on you. (*windows & doors are screened)

Activities & Adventures

Canoeing or kayaking on the sea, estuary, or river? Hiking the forest or joining a nighttime turtle watch? These are your tickets to Liberia’s natural wonders. We’ll hook you up with guidance and basic gear, but if a jellyfish stings, a crab pinches, or a wave knocks you off your paddle, we’re not liable. Jump in if you’re cool with the risks—your safety’s your gig.

Wildlife & Weather

Grand Bassa Co. is teeming with life—monkeys swinging, birds chirping, sea turtles nesting, and the odd critter scurrying by. Give ‘em space; we don’t mess with their turf. Storms, heat, or a sudden downpour? That’s par for the course. Check the forecast if you can, slap on some sunscreen, grab a hat, and decide what you’re up for.

Personal Belongings

Our open, breezy setup means no locked vaults or round-the-clock babysitting. Stow your gear in your locked room or keep it close, but if it gets lost, damaged, or swept out to sea, we can’t cover it. Pack light and stay sharp about your stuff.

Health & Preparedness

We’re off-grid—think spotty cell signal, no on-site doc, and a bumpy ride to the nearest clinic. Bring your meds, bug spray, or first-aid kit if you need ‘em (we keep some basic supplies on hand). Got allergies, asthma, or a bug phobia? Prep for it. You know your limits—we don’t.

Alcohol & Behavior Policy

Here’s the deal: we don’t sell or serve alcohol, but you’re welcome to BYOB. Sip responsibly, though—illegal drugs are a hard no, and inappropriate behavior won’t fly. Respect your fellow guests, the local customs, and culture—we’re all here to chill, not clash. Swimwear? Keep it appropriate—no skimpy bikinis, no swimming in undies, and definitely no nudity. Smoking? Let’s keep it safe and considerate: no smoking in rooms (especially with native materials—fire hazard alert!) or any of our facilities. If you’re lighting up, take it outside and toss cigarette butts in the trash bins out there. Same goes for hookahs—if you bring ‘em, use ‘em downwind from others so everyone can breathe easy. Let’s keep the vibe fun and friendly for all!

Payment Policy

Payment should be made only to authorized staff: the owners or manager. On the rare chance someone asks you to pay them, give a “small ting,” or “help” them out, please let us know ASAP. We’ve worked hand-in-hand with the local village elders and chiefs to create a peaceful, fun experience, and everyone’s on board with the vibe we’re crafting for you. Receipts (paper or digital) will always be provided for your peace of mind.

The Bottom Line

Staying at Coconut Cove Retreat means picking a raw, real adventure over a cushy, bubble-wrapped getaway. We’ll keep the place tidy, the staff welcoming, and the energy good—but you’re in charge of your choices and what comes with ‘em. Injuries, losses, or a crabby run-in with nature? That’s your call, not ours.

Enjoy the freedom, respect the land, and dive in—at your own risk.

Signed,

“The Coconut Cove Retreat Team”

Welcome to Coconut Cove Retreat!

WiFi & Internet

At Coconut Cove Retreat, we’re all about connecting with nature, but we get that you might want to share your adventure online! Be prepared for spotty Liberian network coverage on your journey, especially along the “dusty road” where signals can vanish. Once you’re here, Orange and Lonestar networks work best along our gorgeous beach, and we’re thrilled to keep you connected at Coconut Cove Retreat with our Starlink WiFi at “The Rock”—just grab the code from our awesome manager! Please keep the code to yourself and don’t share it with non-guests or other staff; it’s our little secret to ensure everyone on-site enjoys the vibe and bandwidth. We’re working to expand Starlink soon, so stay tuned for even more fun online!

Beach and Swim Policy

Hey there, beach lovers! Welcome to Coconut Cove Retreat (CCR), where we’ve got not one, but two awesome beach areas waiting for you: “Coconut Beach” and “Canoe Beach”! Whether you’re here to splash around, soak up the sun, or just vibe with the sound of the waves, we’ve got you covered. Let’s dive into the details so you can make the most of your beach time—safely and with a big smile!

Swimming: Splash Around, Stay Savvy!

Both Coconut Beach and Canoe Beach have areas that are usually perfect for swimming—yay! That said, the sea is a wild and wonderful thing, so keep an eye out for currents, waves, tides, and all that jazzy ocean stuff. We’ll happily point out the best spots to take a dip when you arrive, and you can also check them out on our handy-dandy Google Map link here: Coconut Cove Retreat Map Important note: swimming is at your own risk, so please use your best judgment and look out for each other!

For extra peace of mind, we’ve got “life buoy rings” (those cool red rescue rings) spaced along the beaches. They’re there for emergencies only—no playing around with them, okay? Safety first, fun always!

Beach Vibes: Relax, Play, Stroll!

Our beaches are all about kicking back and having a good time. You’ll find thatch umbrellas perfect for shade, paired with comfy Adirondack-style chairs handmade by our talented apprentice carpenters—how cool is that? There’s also a “rustic swing set” for some carefree swaying, a volleyball net for a friendly match, and a tetherball pole to unleash your inner champ. Oh, and guess what? Cornhole is coming soon, so get ready to toss some bags and cheer each other on! Campfires? Sure, just in designated fire rings, wouldn’t want to set the roof on fire!

If you’re more of a “stroll and chill” type, take a leisurely walk along the shore and hunt for seashells—our staff cleans up plastic daily but leaves those treasures for you to discover. It’s like a little gift from the ocean!

Sharing the Shore: Local Flavor

Here’s a fun fact: beaches in Liberia are public, so you might spot some local fishing folks pulling up their dugout canoes along a small stretch of the shore. They’re super friendly and part of the community we’re proud to work with hand-in-hand. Feel free to say hi, swap a smile, or just enjoy the view—it’s all about how much (or little) interaction you’re craving. They’re as welcoming as the warm sand under your toes!

Safety & Fun: Best Beach Practices: Fun Meets Smart

We’re all about keeping the good times rolling while staying smart. Beyond the rescue rings, we’ve got staff keeping an eye on things, and we encourage you to wear water shoes if you’re exploring rocky spots. Got little ones? Keep them close and in sight—it’s all about making memories without any worries. If the weather looks iffy, we’ll let you know, so always feel free to check in with us.

So, toss on those flip-flops, grab your sunscreen, and come enjoy Coconut Cove’s beaches! Whether you’re spiking a volleyball, swinging by the waves, or building your seashell stash, we’ve got everything you need for an epic day. Got questions? Our crew’s here to help—just holler! Now, go make a splash (the fun kind)! 🌴🏖️

Think of this place as your home away from home—a laid-back slice of paradise where you can unwind, soak in the vibes, and make some memories. We’re thrilled to have you here, and we’ve put together a few house policies to keep things running smoothly for everyone. Take a peek below, and let’s make your stay as sweet as a fresh coconut! (Policy applies, where appropriate, to all lodging at CCR).

Check-In and Check-Out

We’re ready to roll out the welcome mat starting at 2:00 p.m. on your arrival day—plenty of time to settle in and start exploring (early arrivals are okay, but you may have to wait for your room). When it’s time to say goodbye, please check out by 11:00 a.m. so we can spruce things up for the next folks coming through. Need a little extra time? Just give us a shout (check the contact details at the end), and we’ll see what we can do. No promises if we’ve got same-day arrivals, but we’ll try our best—thanks for understanding! After check-out, please continue to enjoy the property!

House Rules

We’re all about good vibes and keeping things cozy here at CCR. Here’s how we keep the rhythm flowing:

- Respect the Clock: Stick to those check-in and check-out times—we appreciate it!

- Smoke-Free Zone: No smoking indoors, please. Keep the air crisp like the ocean breeze.

- No Furry Friends: Sorry, pets aren’t allowed—the local wildlife’s got that covered!

- Keep It Tidy: No eating in your rooms, please—let’s keep crumbs in the dining area.

- Energy Savers: Switch off lights and fans when you leave. Heading to the beach? Cover the fans, too, breathing in the salt air is refreshing for us, but corrosive to everything else.

- Quiet Time: We’ve got a 10 p.m. noise policy—ideal for stargazing or snoozing.

- Key Care: Hold onto your keys! Lost ones cost $10 US to replace.

- Treat It Right: Be kind to the furnishings—they’re here for your comfort.

- Water Wise: Use only kitchen sink water for drinking or brushing teeth—no filtered water in the bathrooms.

- Cold Water Courtesy: Refill fridge water bottles after use—future guests will love you for it (Farmhouse).

- Leave It As Is: No rearranging furniture, please—it’s set up just right.

- Keep It Legal: No illegal substances allowed on the premises.

- Payments: Payment should be made only to authorized staff: the owners or manager. Receipts (paper or digital) will always be provided for your peace of mind..

Kitchen Vibes (The Farmhouse Guesthouse)

Feel free to cook up a storm in the kitchen—just keep it clean and welcoming:

- Clean Up: Wash dishes and wipe surfaces after cooking. Frying? Dispose of oils properly—no hot water or oil down the sink!

- Gas Safety: Turn off the gas tank when you’re done with the stove or oven. - Fish Rule: No storing fresh uncooked fish in the fridge—let’s keep the smells outdoors. -Farmhouse Facilities: Kitchen and Farmhouse facilities are for those staying in the Farmhouse.

There’s tons to enjoy here—take your pick:

- Birdwatching (the bush is buzzing with winged wonders!)

- Canoeing along the coast

- Sunset beach strolls

- Market trips in town
